Adam meets Egg Yolks for the first time

just another weekend went by. And it's Monday again. i did nothing productive during the weekend, except for being bounded to the sofa and tv remote. not healthy? yeah rite! hate myself for that! must put the blame on hubby, since he was all day long out with his flying class, leave behind the lovely wife playing chase and run with the active baby in house. no outing. sobbss.. but that explains a little workout at least. and a decent home cooked meal. :)

the Sunday morning, hubby lurked for breakfast at Bangi Kopitiam. it is then when i within a brink decided to introduce egg yolks for adam (of course i did some readings earlier on). something new in his diet. Experts advises parents to only introduce egg yolks at 8 months and egg whites at 1 year old mark. Egg whites are never to be served before 1. Any early could result in an adverse reaction. The egg yolks is said contains the following:

  • all of an egg’s vitamin A, D, and E;
  • almost all the vitamin B12, choline, folic acid and vitamin B3;
  • 76% of the biotin,
  • 73% of the inositol,
  • 50% of the niacin,
  • 93% of the vitamin B6,
  • 42% of the riboflavin,
  • 90% of the thiamin
  • 44% of the protein
    and substantial portions of the egg’s mineral content

It is also said: Eggs is one of the common causes of food allergy and those with an allergy to eggs tend to react to the proteins in the egg white - ovalbumin and ovomucoid. Some children, however, are allergic to the yolk protein, although this is far less common. source: here

so, since he's hit the 1 year old mark, i thought it would be best to give it a try!

bread dip in egg yolks. discard the white egg of course :)
and walla, he went hand clapping upon it! he loves the egg yolk. or wait, what did he not like in the first place? naa, that is what i'm yet to discover. he just seems to love foods. :P

but must remember, egg yolk is not to be served on daily basis. 3 times a week sufficient enough for babies diet :)

an Apple a day keeps the doctor away

hehehe..yess, in order to incorporate the wise as per say, mommy'll ensure adam gets an apple for every single day without fail! mommy, with her utmost attempt prepare the puree fruits all by herself - the not so good in cooking, but have big heart to accomodate the needs for the little boy. the home made food :) it's free of additives that a tiny tummy simply does not need and delicately made with love. Do the commercial baby food companies put this much love and care into their jars? erk, no i'm afraid.

Having said, here i'm posting an entry on another pureed fruits i made for Adam last nite:

the apples and pears were cut into pieces before placing it in the steamer pot

steamed for about 10 minutes - to softened a bit the texture otherwise the blender'll blew u away. ahh, why steam? it's the super best way to keep the nutrientfrom refraining. Steaming as a cooking method helps foods retain their levels of water soluble vitamins too and allows the foods to be surrounded by steam rather than soaked in water.

the steamed fruits blend it all (the mixer apparently was one from vast collection i received for my wedding gift. good that i dun need to spend on a new one:p )

and there you are..let it chill for like half an hour in room temperature before tossing into the fridge. From a reading i made, from this particular site, it is recommended that fresh pureed homemade baby food be stored no longer than 48 hours (many food safety authorities say that 72 hour is fine.) in the refrigerator. Why? Well, basically this limit ensures that bacteria growth in the puree is kept to a minimum and that the food does not take on the "taste of the fridge".

per jar, is usually for two serving per day. so normally, i'll take a jar a day to send to his kakak fatin's house. easy peasy lemon squeezy :)
